Weatherization Classes
Regional Housing Authorities are sending key personnel to SAVEC for a one week workshop on weatherization conducted by Alaska Works Partnership. Due to the high number of participants, two classes were scheduled. The first class is June 9 - 13 and the second is scheduled for June 16 - 20. The instructors providing the training are John Woodward and Phil Kaluza. The one week workshop consist of the following:
Day 1-2:
- Cold Climate Home Building Class 16 hrs
Day 3:
Basic Blower Door for Air-sealing 2 hrs
Introduction to IR camera & other diagnostic equipment 1 hr
Air sealing methods & materials 1 hr
Air-sealing Diagnostics - Hands-on with diagnostic equipment in residential housing 3 hrs
Group discussion: Retrofit/air-sealing planning 1 hr
Day 4:
Air-sealing Diagnostics - Hands-on with diagnostic equipment in residential housing 3 hrs
Group discussion of findings & retrofit/airsealing planning 1 hr
AkWarm 4 hrs
Day 5:
Air-sealing Diagnostics - Hands-on with diagnostic equipment in residential housing 3 hrs
Group discussion of findings & retrofit/airsealing planning 1 hr
Air-sealing Diagnostics - Hands-on with diagnostic equipt in residential housing 2 hrs
Group discussion of findings & retrofit/airsealing planning, wrap-up of air-sealing training 2 hrs
The purpose of the training is to prepare workers to start working with Weatherization Projects funded by the legislature. The legislature appropriated $300 million to AHFC for Weatherization and Home Energy Rebate Programs in the FY08 Supplemental bill, $200 million for weatherization and $100 million for rebates. The Weatherization Program is a program that provides free weatherization assistance for qualified Alaskans.
