The Southwest Alaska Vocational & Educational Center (SAVEC) is dedicated to providing high-quality workforce development and skills training aligned with the needs of Southwest Alaska communities and industries. Through strong partnerships with regional organizations, educational institutions, tribal entities, and employers, SAVEC delivers hands-on, industry-driven training designed to prepare residents for meaningful employment opportunities.
SAVEC offers workforce and vocational training in a variety of fields including construction, transportation, healthcare, fisheries and maritime support, information technology, safety training, infrastructure support services, and other high-demand industries. SAVEC has long been recognized for programs such as Heavy Equipment Operations, CDL and Driver Training, Welding, Carpentry, and occupational safety certifications.
As workforce demands continue to evolve, SAVEC continues expanding training opportunities to support emerging regional and statewide workforce needs, including broadband, information technology, infrastructure, and energy-related industries.
SAVEC’s mission is “to promote, coordinate, and provide high-quality training and education opportunities to residents of Southwest Alaska.” Its vision is “committed to building a healthy, educated, and employed regional workforce.”
Founded in June 2002 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, SAVEC serves residents throughout the Bristol Bay region and rural Alaska. The organization is governed by an eight-member Board of Directors representing major regional organizations, educational partners, and local governments within Bristol Bay.
As an independent nonprofit organization, SAVEC maintains the flexibility to respond quickly to changing workforce and industry needs while continuing to strengthen regional workforce capacity through accessible, community-focused training opportunities.
